Befriending Your Nervous System — The tug stops running the show
A 5-Day Course
Befriending Your Nervous System

You felt that tug.
Now what?

That gut pull when someone asks a question and suddenly you can't find your no — that's not indecision. It's a trap. Both answers are theirs, and the one that's actually yours isn't on the menu. In 5 days, you'll learn the one move that gives it back.

Same structure. Same trap.
Different person every time.

Someone asks a question with two options. Both options are theirs. The true answer for you isn't there — and saying so costs you a piece of your self-image.

You've felt it in a dozen rooms. It sounds reasonable on the surface, which is exactly why it works. Here's the same move, wearing different faces:

  • In a DM"Is later this quarter better timing — or is growing your business just not a priority?"
  • From family"Do you not love me, or are you just selfish?"
  • From a partner"Do you not care about us, or are you too busy for me?"
  • From a boss"Are you not a team player, or is this just not the right role for you?"

It's not logic that gets pulled in.
It's your conditioning.

The nervous system you built to survive answers before you can think.

If you grew up scanning for what you did wrong, an ambiguous question doesn't register as a question. It registers as a threat. Your system rushes to smooth it over, say yes, keep the peace — before your thinking brain ever shows up.

This is why insight hasn't fixed it. You can name the pattern perfectly and still get caught by it, because the catch happens in your body, faster than thought. You don't have an understanding problem. You have a timing problem — and timing is trainable.

You don't answer. Not yet.

The move is three beats. It takes seconds. And it's the entire thing you'll build over five days until it's automatic.

Beat One

You pause.

You take as much space and time as you can. You do not owe anyone an immediate answer to a question designed to bypass your nervous system.

Beat Two

You come back.

Feet on the floor. Weight in the chair. Exhales longer than inhales. You wait until your nervous system comes back to you, instead of answering from the part that's bracing.

Beat Three

You know.

The answer that's actually yours shows up the moment you stop trying to answer inside theirs. Not a script. Your own clarity, finally on time.

Short lesson. One practice.
Carry it into your real day.

No marathon videos. Each day gives you one tool you actually use the next time the tug shows up.

Day 1

Find your baseline — and your way back to it

Learn what your nervous system feels like on an ordinary day, and the grounding move that interrupts the prediction loop on the spot. This is the "come back to your body" step, made repeatable.

Day 2

Name your protection pattern

Fight, flight, freeze, or fawn — which one takes the wheel when you're pulled into someone else's framing. Plus the specific physical discharge that releases each one in seconds.

Day 3

Catch the tug earlier

Map the exact tones, questions, and moments that hook you — so you feel the pull coming instead of realizing it an hour later in the shower.

Day 4

Stay in the room without going under

Your window of tolerance — how much you can hold before you flip into protection, and three fast ways back to yourself when a hard conversation is still happening.

Day 5

What the tug has been costing you

The honest tally — in your relationships, your work, your sense of self — and what changes when the answer that shows up is finally your own.

You feel the shift the first time you try it.

This isn't a course you sit through hoping it adds up later. On Day 1 you get a tool you can use in the next tense conversation you walk into. It's as simple as naming where you are, out loud, in your own body:

"I am here, in this room, right now. I can feel my feet. I am safe in this moment."

Studies show present-moment awareness quiets the amygdala — where the panic lives — and brings the thinking, choosing part of your brain back online. That's the whole game: real-time information instead of old projections. Reacting becomes responding.

Is this actually for you?

Yes, if

  • You feel the tug and only find your real answer hours later, when it's too late
  • You've done the therapy and read the books, and you still get pulled in
  • You want one concrete move you can use this week — not 26 weeks of buildup
  • You're done managing everyone else's comfort before your own
  • You're ready to do this in your body, where the pattern actually lives

Not yet, if

  • You're in acute crisis and need clinical support — please reach for that first
  • You want to understand the theory but not practice it
  • You're looking for someone to hand you scripts instead of your own clarity
  • You want a quick mindset hack — this is a body-based skill, built by repetition

Five days.
The tug stops running the show.

A short lesson and one practice a day. Yours to keep and return to for life.

Melissa Romano
Taught by Melissa Romano

The version of this work that doesn't ask you to be calm about it.

Melissa is a published author with multiple accreditations in trauma and somatic therapy — and a straightforward, no-spiritual-bypass approach to teaching it. No "just breathe." No telling you you're broken.

Her whole premise is the opposite: you're not broken, you're protecting. The patterns that get you caught were built to keep you safe. This course doesn't try to erase them. It teaches you to feel them coming, and choose anyway.

This is the tool she wished she'd had — taught in five days, so you can start using it now.

Before you start.

How much time does it take each day?

A short video and one written practice — about 10–15 minutes. The real work happens in your actual day: the next time the tug shows up, you use the move. This isn't another thing to add to your schedule. It's a skill you carry into the schedule you already have.

Do I need any experience with somatic work?

None. Some people arrive after years of therapy; others have never done any of this. The course starts from the ground up. If you have a body and a nervous system, you can do this.

What if I can't get to it right away?

You have lifetime access. The five days are a suggested pace, not a deadline. Start when you're ready, repeat any day as many times as you need, and come back to it whenever the tug shows up again.

Is this therapy?

No — it's an education and practice course, not clinical treatment. If you're in active crisis or working with serious trauma, please stay with your therapist and care team. This can sit alongside that work, but it isn't a substitute for it.

What exactly do I get for $57?

All five daily lessons, the written practices for each day, and the full toolkit — grounding, protection-pattern discharge, trigger mapping, and window-of-tolerance work — plus lifetime access to everything, including future updates. One payment, yours to keep.

The next time you feel it, you'll know what to do.

You felt the tug. This is the answer to "now what?"
